Welcome to Laurie’s Substack: “The Art of Being a Painter, Writer, and Mother”
(31) Our Little House – by Laurie Hollman,PhD
Hello everyone. Here is a link to a post on my Substack that will give you an idea of what you will find in my new book coming out:
“We are All in All of Us in Love and War,” a collection of my poems associated with paintings that express love during peacetime and love d enduring in the aftermath of war and violence. As a psychoanalyst, I know that trauma can live inside someone always, yet it can shift and change when the traumatized person feels love, which re-engages us in that feeling of belonging. I hope that my poems and paintings can lead readers/viewers to experience and understand these transitions.

Colorscape, 2000, acrylic, 29 x 41 inches
This painting is titled. “Colorscape” gives a rich variation and blending of colors. But this title is offering more. Consider that we each have a colorscape in our minds, shaped by our inner lives — interior thoughts and feelings always in flux.
Consider that while this is an abstract painting, it is also a landscape of memories, hopes, and dreams that blend and inspire.
In our minds, metaphorically, we move through spaces of shapes and colors that represent experiences, sometimes with increasing lucidity, sometimes muddled in our dreams. If we listen to ourselves and hold on a few minutes upon awakening to visual images in night dreams, we get to know ourselves better.
