Four-year-old Todd tells me that he had a very good summer and wishes it was longer. He did so many things. He smiles as he tells me about taking swimming lessons at home and swimming in Grandma and Grandpa’s pool when he visited. When he was at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s his older brother who’s seven got a snorkel from Grandpa. But he didn’t want one because he’s only four. He said, “When I’m seven I’ll get a snorkel.” Todd not only loves to swim with the woggle, he also likes to play in the Jacuzzi with his brother, Mommy, Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa. Everyone fits.
Soon Todd says he’s going to preschool. He wants to go this year. He likes playing with other kids and they have lots of toys and story time. Todd loves having books read to him. He already knows letters and sounds and Grandpa thinks he’ll learn to read very quickly. He likes to also play games on the computer and Grandma is so amazed to see how fast he uses all the keys and makes the figures win the games. He only does that at home though. They don’t use computer games in preschool.

Todd enjoys playing with his brother. He learned to use Legos by watching him. Todd likes building highway cruisers, motorbikes, and trucks. Most of all he likes his own inventions, not following all the instructions like his older brother. Both Daddy and Mommy are good at building, too. Todd is proud of how they are rebuilding their big house. Daddy reorganized his room so he has a big closet. He also has a new desk that he got this year. It was actually Daddy’s desk that Grandma saved for him.

Todd’s most recent adventure is coming up this weekend. He’s going to a play that Grandpa wrote and his uncle is playing a part in. He wants to be an actor like his uncle. When he was only three he stayed in the lobby with his brother and Mommy and Daddy when the play was read because Grandpa thought he was too young to listen. But at the end of the play reading when he heard the applause, he stuck his head in the theater door and gave everyone “thumbs up.” Grandma and Grandpa told him he was really great to do that. Todd still remembers doing it. But this time, he’ll be in the audience and clap like the grown-ups.

Todd wishes Grandma and Grandpa lived closer because it’s a long ride to their house. But he watches movies in the car and sometimes falls asleep. But if he wakes up when he arrives, he’s really excited to give hugs to Grandma and Grandpa and have some yogurt before he goes to bed. Sometimes he’s already asleep though because it’s usually almost 8 o’clock by the time they arrive. They can’t leave home until Daddy gets home from work. 8 o’clock is past his bedtime so sometimes he doesn’t see Grandma and Grandpa until the morning. Daddy just carries him into his very own bed on a lower level of a bunk bed. His older brother sleeps on the top.
Todd says he sleeps well.

I‘m sure this is because he’s such a cheerful, inventive, curious, boy who’s full of energy!
